The work we take on

Most jobs fall into one or more of the categories below. If you are not sure what your walls or ceilings need, describe what you can see and we will tell you what it needs.

• Skimming

  A thin finish coat trowelled over sound existing plaster or new plasterboard, leaving walls and ceilings flat and ready for paint or paper.

• Re-skims over artex

  Textured artex can be over-skimmed back to a flat surface, provided what is underneath is still sound. Where it is not, boarding over the top is usually the better route.

• Rendering

  External render built up in coats, from the keyed scratch coat through to the finish, matched to the wall underneath and to how exposed the elevation is to the weather.

• Dry lining and plasterboarding

  Boards fixed to walls and ceilings, then taped and skimmed. A fast way to true up uneven rooms, and a common partner to renovation and insulation work.

• Lime plastering and lime render

  Lime plaster inside and lime render outside, for older and traditionally built homes in Ramsey and across the Island. Lime lets a solid wall breathe, so moisture can get out instead of being trapped behind cement.

• Coving and period detail

  Fitting new coving and repairing existing cornice and ornamental plasterwork in older houses, so the repair sits quietly alongside the original work.

• Damp and crack repair

  Chasing out cracks, cutting back blown or perished plaster, and making good. Where damp is the cause, the source of the moisture needs dealing with first, or the repair will not last.
